Football pitches experience severe stress during a game, especially when slidings are made. Machines and staff maintaining the field afterwards also cause stress due to the pressure they exercise on the field.

Traditionally, a (compact) tractor is used for maintenance work such as aerating, sanding, scarifying, scratching, sowing and sweeping. However, tractors can cause damage to the surface, especially when the fields are soft and after prolonged rainfall in the winter months. Under such circumstances it is possible that the tractor tires leave marks on the playing surface.

Roman Zhukov, groundsman for the Nizhny Novgorod stadium, uses a walk-in-front Redexim Carrier when maintaining his field. The weight of the Redexim Carrier is half of that of a tractor. While spring is the best time of the year to sow grass in order to obtain a better density, the stadium pitch is very weak and sensitive after the winter.

This spring Zhukov used the Speed-Seed (model 1200) three times, to plant seeds in thousands of small holes directly underneath the surface, in an attempt to make the seed germinate quickly. As the Redexim Carrier precedes the Speed-Seed, pressure is reduced to the minimal as the units have a low weight and wide tires.

Nizhny Novgorod stadium also uses the Rink 1010 precision barge, and the Verti-drain 1513. These machines are also attached to the Carrier.
